Hand pulled, linoleum print by Biddeford artist Perceval Inkpen of Studio Chickadee.  

Each print begins with a wooden block with a layer of linoleum on one side.  Perceval sketches an image, then carves it into the linoleum layer of the block.  With multi-colored images such as this one, three separate blocks are carved, one for each color layer.  Each block is then coated with printing ink, and pressed onto paper to create the image.

These original prints are signed and numbered.  Each print exhibits subtle variations; part of the beauty of the hand-made nature of the block printing method.
